Jackass. Jaywalking. Jury Duty.

I haven't had the time or energy to update my blog lately, but here's what I've been up to. On Thursday night, I went to a screening of the new Jackass movie. It was hilarious and at times a little disgusting. On Saturday, I spent the day at Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure, and Downtown Disney with my Disney friend Mary. Monday night was the second and final LA King's pre-season home game. The King's were losing 3-0 in the second period, but came back and scored 4 consecutive goals. The Anaheim Ducks scored again and the game went into overtime and finally into a penalty shootout which the King's won 2-1. It turned out to be a great game. As we were leaving the Staples Center and walking to our car, a police officer decided to harass us and threaten to give us jaywalking tickets on a street that was closed. Apparently, there's so little crime in downtown LA at 11:30pm at night that they need to go after hockey fans leaving a game. Luckily, the cop got another call and had to let us go. However, I might end up in court after all. I got a summons for jury duty today - first time in over four years.

Jamie Morris : Parents Visiting : Mmm... Korean BBQ
Mmm... Korean BBQ
Parents Visiting

My parents have been in town for the past week and we've been very busy. In the past few days we went to a Dodgers game, the LA County Fair, a Galaxy match, Cirque Du Soleil (Delirium), and an LA Kings preseason game. We also had lots of good food... Krispy Kreme (doughnuts), Palms Thai (Elvis!), Philippe's (french dip), Mr. Churro (custard filled!), Chosun Galbi (Korean BBQ), King's Head, Sprinkles (cupcakes), Cheescake Factory, La Buca, and The Pantry. And all that was just over the weekend and three weeknights! I'm tired. They also went to Universal Studios and did a tour of Paramount while I was at work on Monday and Tuesday. I need a few days to rest.

Note: If you go to the fair, don't eat the Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich. Yuck!

Three Galaxy Games in a Week

I don't go to a match all season and then I go to three in a week. The Galaxy played Houston again tonight, this time for 3 extremely important points in the MLS Western Conference. In the first half the Galaxy played the best I've seen them play all season. Unfortunately, the second half was a different story and they ended up losing 2-1. I haven't given up on them yet. I'll be back on Saturday when the Galaxy take on the Colorado Rapids. Get your tickets here!

US Open Cup Semifinal

I went back to the Home Depot Center tonight for another Galaxy game. Tonight was not a regular MLS league match, it was a U.S. Open Cup semifinal match. The Galaxy beat the Houston Dynamo 3-1 to advance to the final which is later this month in Chicago. The competition dates back to 1914 and the Galaxy have won it twice (2001 and 2005). The Galaxy play Houston again this Sunday in a very important MLS match, so get your tickets now!

Jamie Morris : Labor Day Weekend : Niki & Jamie at the African Cultural Faire
Niki & Jamie at the African Cultural Faire
Labor Day Weekend

On Saturday night, I went to my first LA Galaxy game of the season. The 2005 MLS Champions aren't doing so well. They're in last place and for the first time in their history, they might not make the playoffs. Tonight they played well and beat the Kansas City Wizards 2-1 thanks to two goals from Alan Gordon. On Sunday, I went to the 21st Annual African Marketplace & Cultural Faire. I didn't end up buying anything, but I had fun walking around. I had some west African food which was a bit spicy, but good and it came with a ginger drink. There were also several stages set up for music, but we were there early and the better music acts didn't start until later. On Monday, I went for a 30-mile bike ride to Hermosa Beach and back. The Labor Day festival was going on in Hermosa - live bands, food, vendors, arts and crafts. I walked around for a little while, grabbed some food and headed back to Santa Monica. My legs are a little sore now.
