Cingular 8125 Pocket PC Phone
Mobile Upgrade
Around 18 months ago, I got one of the new Motorola MPX220 Windows Smartphones from Best Buy with the extended warranty. The phone was really cool, but I had many problems with it. In the first two months I had to have the phone replaced twice and I continued having problems with the third one I got. So I called Best Buy. They told me that they stopped carrying the MPX220 so they couldn't send me a new one. They also told me that I could go to a store and purchase a comparable phone at equal or less value than what I paid for my MPX220 ($199), but they don't carry any phones that cheap (unless you get a new activation). So I went to Best Buy today to get it sorted out. I was there almost two hours, most of the time was spent on the phone arguing with the extended warranty people. It was very agrivating. Ultimately, they said they would give me a full refund ($199) that I could use to purchase another phone. I really wanted the new Cingular 8125 Windows Pocket PC phone, but it costs almost $600 unless you're a new customer. The Best Buy sales associate said he could give me the phone for the "upgrade" price of $349 so I took it. After the $199 reimbursement, the phone will only end up costing me $150. Not bad for a $600 phone. Also, they never made me return my old phone, so I can probably sell it on eBay and get some more money back. I'm happy with the result, but I'm really unhappy with the way Best Buy handled this. I will never buy a cell phone from Best Buy again. Even the sales associates in the store said you're better off getting it directly from the phone company.
The Cingular 8125 Windows Pocket PC phone is really cool. It's got the new Windows Mobile 5.0 software which includes all kinds of programs including Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Outlook, Word, Excel, and of course, Solitaire. It's got a large screen and a pull out QWERTY keyboard with is extemely handy. And the camera is MUCH better than my old phone - even though they are both 1.3 megapixel cams. I've been playing around with it this evening and so far I like it. I just hope it's more reliable than the smartphone.
