Jamie Morris : Disney Day : Jamie @ Disneyland
Jamie @ Disneyland
Disney Day

Today I spent a (FREE!) day at Disney with my Disney friend, Mary. We started out at Disneyland and went on Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Mad Tea Party, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Horseless Carriage. In the afternoon we went over to Disney's California Adventure and did the three main attractions: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Soarin' Over California, and California Screamin'. It was my third time at Disneyland and my first time at California Adventure. My favorite ride of the day was The Tower of Terror which takes place in the elevator of an old Hollywood Hotel. California Adventure was fun, but I don't think there's enough there to keep you busy for a whole day. The lines were short though compared to Disneyland.

Thank You For Smoking

I've been seeing a lot movies this month. Luckily most of them have been for free. Tonight I saw Thank You For Smoking which I knew nothing about when I stepped into the theater. It turns out to be really, really funny. I liked it a lot.

Also today, my pals Alex and Lisa launched their brand spanking new jewelry website: AquaLeafDesigns.com. You should go check it out and buy some of their handcrafted pieces of wearable art. Tell them "Jamers" sent you. While you are browsing, you may notice that the underlying HTML and PHP code of the website is very well written. Well, that's because it was built by yours truly.

I (HEART) BEST BUY

Actually, I really hate Best Buy. They have the worst customer service on the planet (after cable companies and airlines). But today they surprised me. I'm not sure if they meant to do this or if it was an accident, but I received a check in the mail for $378 which is the total price I paid for my new Cingular 8125 Pocket PC Phone that I bought last week. I was told that they would send me a check for $199, but with the service I've been getting from them, I was expecting nothing. So, my new $600 phone ends up being FREE and I still have my old phone. I think that's going to have to go on eBay. I'm going to end up making a profit from buying this new phone... heheh.

United 93

Tonight I went to see an advance screening of the controversial new film United 93. I can't say that I was looking forward to seeing this movie and I wouldn't have paid to see it, but it turned out to be quite good. I was expecting a depressing film that focused on the people who were in the plane Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001 and possibly their family members. Of course, we all know what's going to happen and the ending is very sad, but the first 90 minutes of the film is not depressing at all. It actually takes place in real time. The first half of the movie focuses on the air traffic controllers and military as they were discovering that hijackings of the other planes were taking place. Many of these people play themselves in the movie. It is interesting to see the confusion that was going on. The second half of the film focuses more on the people on Flight 93... as the hijackers took over the plane and the people started making phone calls to people on the ground and realizing what was happening. The movie is very well done. You feel like you are on the plane with them. I have to agree with the people who say this is an important movie that needed to be made, but I can also understand why people think it's too soon. My feeling is that this is an excellent film that tells an important story and everyone should see it. If you don't want to see it now, then don't. It does seem a little strange to see this in a movie theater which is usually a place you go to be entertained. Maybe it would have been better to send this straight to TV or DVD. But, whether it's the theater or on TV, I recommend that you see this film.

Jamie Morris : Graffiti in Santa Monica!?!?!? : Moses Trying out the Paintbrush
Moses Trying out the Paintbrush
Graffiti in Santa Monica!?!?!?

I didn't do a whole lot this weekend. I stayed here in Santa Monica the whole time. Today Dave and I went to check out one of Dave's friends, Moses, who was doing some street art for Sprite here in Santa Monica. I snapped a few pics with my new phone cam. They came out pretty good. While we were there Jude Law passed by us being chased by the paparazzi which was pretty funny. Dave and Moses were graffiti artists here in Los Angeles back in the eighties. You can check out some of Moses artwork at digitalretna.com and marquislewis.com. Dave's website is minerone.com. Dave (aka Miner) is featured in the new book: The History of Los Angeles Graffiti Art Vol. 1 1983-1988. Check it out. It's got some really cool artwork and stories and includes a DVD.

M:i:III & V4V

Last week I saw a few horror movies, this week was all about action movies. On Wednesday I saw an advance screening of Paramount's big summer movie: Mission Impossible 3. It's an action packed spy movie starring Tom Cruise and directed by J.J. Abrahms (Lost, Alias). I wasn't disappointed. It was good to finally see the movie after working on the website for so long. On Friday I saw V For Vendetta starring Natalie Portman. This has been out for about month and it's a really cool movie. A story set in Britain in the future where the terrorist is the hero. It was a little long for me (2 hours 12 minutes), but I liked it a lot.

Jamie Morris : Mobile Upgrade : Cingular 8125 Pocket PC Phone
Cingular 8125 Pocket PC Phone
Mobile Upgrade

Around 18 months ago, I got one of the new Motorola MPX220 Windows Smartphones from Best Buy with the extended warranty. The phone was really cool, but I had many problems with it. In the first two months I had to have the phone replaced twice and I continued having problems with the third one I got. So I called Best Buy. They told me that they stopped carrying the MPX220 so they couldn't send me a new one. They also told me that I could go to a store and purchase a comparable phone at equal or less value than what I paid for my MPX220 ($199), but they don't carry any phones that cheap (unless you get a new activation). So I went to Best Buy today to get it sorted out. I was there almost two hours, most of the time was spent on the phone arguing with the extended warranty people. It was very agrivating. Ultimately, they said they would give me a full refund ($199) that I could use to purchase another phone. I really wanted the new Cingular 8125 Windows Pocket PC phone, but it costs almost $600 unless you're a new customer. The Best Buy sales associate said he could give me the phone for the "upgrade" price of $349 so I took it. After the $199 reimbursement, the phone will only end up costing me $150. Not bad for a $600 phone. Also, they never made me return my old phone, so I can probably sell it on eBay and get some more money back. I'm happy with the result, but I'm really unhappy with the way Best Buy handled this. I will never buy a cell phone from Best Buy again. Even the sales associates in the store said you're better off getting it directly from the phone company.

The Cingular 8125 Windows Pocket PC phone is really cool. It's got the new Windows Mobile 5.0 software which includes all kinds of programs including Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Outlook, Word, Excel, and of course, Solitaire. It's got a large screen and a pull out QWERTY keyboard with is extemely handy. And the camera is MUCH better than my old phone - even though they are both 1.3 megapixel cams. I've been playing around with it this evening and so far I like it. I just hope it's more reliable than the smartphone.

Jamie Morris : Scary Movies : Bury The Grudge. Burn The Village. See The Saw.
Bury The Grudge. Burn The Village. See The Saw.
Scary Movies

I saw a bunch of scary movies this week. The first movie I saw was Saw. (saw was saw? - not quite a palindrome but still pretty weird). Saw is great horror flick starring Cary Elwes (from The Princess Bride!) about a twisted serial killer. Now, I need to see Saw 2. Next I saw the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. I'm not sure if I've ever seen the original or not, but this one is good. Pretty standard horror flick. Not bad, but not that special. And finally today I went to see Scary Movie 4 which is not scary at all, it's a comedy. If you like the humor of Scary Movie 1, 2, and 3, you'll probably like this one too. I know I did. It makes fun of War of The Worlds, The Grudge, The Village and many other films of the past couple of years including Saw.

Sliding Glass Door in Africa
Springtime Sunburns

I noticed something very strange on Monday when I woke up - my arms and my nose were red! I hadn't gotten a sunburn since last year, but after spending a couple hours biking at the beach on Sunday, I ended up a little pink. I guess summer must be coming.

You may have noticed that I haven't had many pics on my website for the past few months. That's because I sold my old digital camera and I've been looking for a new one to buy. I really like the Canon PowerShot SD700 IS but it hasn't been released yet. It's supposed to come on in April or May. I just hope I can get one before my vacation in June. Until then, you'll just have to check out Niki's Photo Gallery. She just got back from a two week trip to Africa.

Jamie Morris : In Da Pub : Rooney Saves The Day
Rooney Saves The Day
In Da Pub

I hadn't been to Ye Olde King's Head recently, but I made up for it this weekend. I went there three times in the past two days... once for fish and chips, once for drinks, and once for breakfast. This morning I got there at 8am to watch the Man United vs Arsenal match on PPV. It was $10 to get in, but it was worth it. This is my favorite match of the year to watch and the Red Devils won 2-0 thanks to Mr. Wayne Rooney. Unfortunately, Chelsea also won today so Man United is still in second place by 7 points, but there's still a chance. It may come down to the April 29th match between Man U and Chelsea.

Watching The Telly

I spent a lot of time inside this weekend watching my new TV. The HD (high definition) programs are really amazing, but not all of the programs on the HD channels are actually HD - just the major programs. Sports events look amazing. I watched some college basketball yesterday and Nascar today. I'm definitely going to get ESPN-HD for the World Cup finals. I also watched some movies and The Sopranos on HBO-HDTV. And PBS has some great shows in HD. I watched one show about volcanos in Hawaii that looked amazing. I found a great page on CNET of HDTV Listings. Unforunately, I only get 7 HD channels that Adelphia offers. Hopefully they'll get more soon. Yesterday, I went to Radio Shack and bought an Indoor HDTV Antenna in hopes of getting some more channels. I was able to pick up a few more, but it was nothing that I was interested in so I returned the antenna. I also tested out some DVDs and Video Games on my TV. Widescreen DVDs look great. Now I see why they call it Home Theater. I don't have the whole audio setup with a billion speakers, but maybe I'll think about getting that when HD DVD players come out later this year. My old Playstation 2 games look great too. Overall, I'm really happy and glad I bought it. I wasn't a coach potato all weekend - I did get out a couple of times to run some errands and today I went for a bike ride at the beach.
