I'd Like To Thank My Fans...

For making this month the biggest month ever for jamiemorris.com. (Not bad considering it only has 28 days.) I was just checking out my stats page and I'm getting over 1000 visitors a month these days which is quite a lot for my little blog. Most people end up getting to my site from search engines like Google. Searching for things such as "jamie morris", "nuevo progresso", "twisted wild whiskers", "u2 fanclub presale password", "even jesus hates creed t-shirt", and "cinespia cemetery movie". Strange, huh?

The thing that surprises me the most is where people come from. Here's a list of more than 80 countries that I've had visitors from (in order by number of visits):

United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Brazil, Italy, India, Spain, Belgium, Singapore, South Africa, Mexico, Sweden, China, Uruguay, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Denmark, Israel, Austria, Portugal, Malaysia, Poland, Finland, Norway, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Philippines, Czech Republic, Hungary, Korea, Argentina, Turkey, Estonia, Peru, Chile, Romania, Greece, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, Yugoslavia, Europe, Costa Rica, Croatia, Lebanon, Cyprus, Guatemala, Guam, Morocco, Egypt, Mozambique, Vietnam, Kuwait, Venezuela, Malta, Latvia, Iceland, Algeria, Oman, Lithuania, Slovenia, Sudan, Slovakia, Georgia, Trinidad and Tobago, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cote D'Ivoire, Netherlands Antilles, Nigeria, and Brunei Darussalam.

Oscar Sunday

The Oscars weren't bad tonight. Chris Rock was a good host. It goes by fast when you can skip the commercials. I saw Million Dollar Baby on Friday which ended up winning Best Picture. It's a good movie, but I don't think it was that good. I wouldn't even put it in my top ten for the year. I think the only Paramount movie that won anything was Lemony Snicket for Makeup.

I spent the rest of my weekend rollerblading, watching soccer and nascar, and shopping. I've been on a shopping spree for the past week and I hope I bought everything I wanted because I've run out of money.

Earthquake!!!!!

I just felt an earthquake! It was actually pretty weak... only a 2.9 magnitude "microearthquake" centered near Encino, but exciting for me. I can't remember the last time I felt one here in Santa Monica.

Jamie Morris : Star Trek Fans Demonstrate at Paramount : Trekkies Rally at Paramount
Trekkies Rally at Paramount
Star Trek Fans Demonstrate at Paramount

Today, Star Trek Fans came to Paramount Pictures to protest the cancellation of Star Trek: Enterprise. Three weeks ago, it was announced that this will be the series last season on UPN, but some fans just won't accept it and staged rallies around the world to Save Enterprise. The rally at Paramount had around 150 people at it's highest point around 9:00am. I went outside at around 11:00am and there were fewer than 100 people outside. Most of them had signs asking for the show to be moved to the Sci-Fi channel, but that's pretty unlikely. There were fans at the Melrose Gate all day long and cars honked as they drove by. The rally probably won't do anything to help the show, especially since the turnout was so low. I think everyone was expecting more people.

Tornados, and Rainbows, and Lightning, Oh My!

It was quite a scene coming out of the Grand Olympic Auditorium last night after the Interpol show. Thousands of people emptying out of the building into the streets in the pouring rain running in every direction to find their cars. Then the lightning came, followed by thousands of screams, and then the thunder which set off hundreds of car alarms. This all repeated several times. It was quite amusing.

Today we had showers on and off all day. Sometimes the sun was out. I saw a giant rainbow. And I also heard there were some tornados and hail. It was actually a pretty nice day. I decided to do some shopping since we apparently have a new dress code at work -- no more t-shirts. I went to the Beverly Center and Loehmann's which is now my new favorite store. I got two shirts there and signed up for their "Insider Club".

Jamie Morris : Interpol @ Grand Olympic Auditorium : Interpol in Los Angeles
Interpol in Los Angeles
Interpol @ Grand Olympic Auditorium

Tonight I went to see Interpol at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in downtown LA with Erin. It was the first time I've been there since I went to a roller derby two years ago. It's a really good venue for concerts, but it's a real sketchy neighborhood. Blonde Redhead opened up and I was not impressed with them. The music was okay, but that woman has to be the worst singer I've ever heard. She sounds something like a sick cat trying to sing. Interpol sounded great and they played a lot of good songs. They didn't seem as energetic on stage as they did last summer when I saw them at the Curiosa Festival. Maybe they're getting tired of the constant touring.

Setlist: Next Exit, Slow Hands, Narc, Obstacle 1, Public Pervert, Not Even Jail, Time To Be Small, NYC, C'mere, Take You On A Cruise, Evil, Stella, Roland
Encore: Specialist, Say Hello To Angels

The Sherry Lansing Theatre

We had a going away party today for Sherry Lansing, the CEO of Paramount. We got some free food and drinks while we listened to some speeches. Morgan Freeman was there. And so was Sumner Redstone, the CEO of Viacom. Former President Jimmy Carter also said a few words via video. We also witnessed the dedication of The Sherry Lansing Theatre (formerly The Studio Theatre aka "the crappy, little theatre").

Jamie Morris : Bride & Prejudice : The World's Most Beautiful Woman?
The World's Most Beautiful Woman?
Bride & Prejudice

Going to the movies is getting expensive. It cost me $10.25 to go see Bride & Prejudice tonight. I'm glad I get to see most movies for free. But it was worth it. Bride & Prejudice is Bollywood-style musical version of Jane Austen's story directed by Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham). It stars Indian superstar Aishwarya Rai, who many 60 Minutes viewers will know is the world's most popular actress and the world's most beautiful woman. I can't really disagree with either of those statements. She's great in her english-speaking debut. The movie is a lot of fun. It was filmed in India, London, and Los Angeles. I actually saw my apartment building in one scene. Part of it was filmed on the beach here in Santa Monica. I wish I would have known when they were there.

Hotel Sudan?

I've been so busy this week that I haven't even had time to update my site. Other than working a lot, I did go out a couple of times. On Monday, Alex and I went to Benihana for some steak and lobster and then we went to Harvelle's for some live blues music.

On Friday, I went to a screening of Hotel Rwanda, a sad but true story that took place in Rwanda in the 1990s. In 1994, when the Hutu extremists began killing off all the Tutsi people in the country, a Hutu hotel manager named Paul Rusesabagina set up a secret refugee camp for Tutsi people in the hotel that he managed. His camp helped save 1200 people while the extremists murdered nearly one million Tutsi people. The rest of the world did nothing to help these people. The sad thing is that similar acts of genocide are going on in Sudan right now, and again, the world does nothing. The United States government doesn't seem to care about Africa. If there's no muslims to kill, what's the point in sending troops there? Or perhaps there's not enough oil in Sudan for us to take? I don't get it. Actually, I do, and it's really sad.

After the movie, I went out with Erin to a bar in Reseda called Weber's Place. I had some less than spectacular BBQ Beef Ribs and beer. Lots and lots of beer. The bar was pretty cool. We closed the place down after seeing three bands play. The best was Waterhead led by Eddie, the legendary punk rocker from Glendale, who was kind enough to give me a ride back to Santa Monica after show. Eddie rocks!

Jamie Morris : Superbowl Sunday : Football Game Of The Week: Arsenal vs. Man Utd
Football Game Of The Week: Arsenal vs. Man Utd
Superbowl Sunday

I just finished watching the Superbowl. The game was boring, especially compared to the Arsenal vs. Manchester United football match earlier in the week. The commercials weren't that great either. My favorite was the Go Daddy Censorship Hearing commercial. You can see the full uncensored "Web Only" commercial online. The best movie trailer was a Paramount(!) movie: War Of The Worlds starring Tom Cruise. The halftime show featuring Paul McCartney was probably the best entertainment for the night. The good news is that this year I don't have to listen the idiots of America complaining for the next month about seeing (even though most of them didn't see it) part of a breast for a half second.
