Happy Leap Day everyone! This morning I went to a couple of screenings at the American Film Market. The first film I saw was Ring Of Darkness. It was basically a 90 minute Von Dutch commercial with a completely stupid plot and terrible acting. The second movie I saw, Silver Hawk, starred Michelle Yeoh as a masked crime fighter with kung fu skills she learned as a child from an ancient shaolin monastery. It was a lot of fun. I'll be watching the Oscars tonight cheering for Peter Jackson and the hobbits.

UPDATE: The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King won all 11 of the Oscars that it was nominated for, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Yeehaw! It's about time.

I got my CD MAP settlement check today. A big $13.86. Seems like I should get more for getting ripped off by record companies for 5 years.

Tonight, I went to The Roxy in Hollywood to see a punk show. I saw two old punk bands: Subhumans and Naked Aggression. Both bands broke up long ago, but are now back together and touring. The show was sold out and I had to buy a ticket outside for double face value. It was a good show, but I was too tired from staying out late last night to really enjoy it. The funniest part was the fact that most of the people in the audience weren't even born when the Subhumans released their last album in 1985.

On the busride home from work today, I met a girl named Lashaun. She seemed like an interesting person... she's a wannabe fashion designer that just moved here from Chicago, and we ending up making friends and having dinner together. That was fun. Later, I met Alex at The Joint and we saw a couple of bands play including M.P.D.Q., my friend Greg's band. They're an alternative/industrial band from here in L.A. and they sounded great tonight. They're playing again on March 18th at Good Hurt if you're interested in seeing them.

I saw 21 Grams today. It was good, but not as great as everyone says. I'm having second thoughts about seeing The Passion Of The Christ. It looks kinda gory. If I want gore, I'll go to a horror movie. Speaking of Horror movies, I got a good one this week from Netflix called Cabin Fever.

Today is my Dad's birthday. Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is also Grey Tuesday: a day of coordinated civil disobedience. Dozens of websites will post Danger Mouse's Grey Album on their site for 24 hours in protest of EMI's attempts to censor this work. The album is a a remix of Jay-Z's Black Album and the Beatles' White Album, and EMI wants it destroyed. To find out more about this historic online protest and where to download the album for free today, CLICK HERE.

I didn't do too much this weekend. I stayed inside because it was rainy. I started watching The History of Soccer: The Beautiful Game DVD set that I recently bought. I also finished reading The Di Vinci Code. It's a really great book. You should read it. Hopefully next weekend will be nicer.

I saw two movies this week. Miracle was amazing. Everyone should see it. Cold Mountain was so bad I almost walked out of it. Today, I wasn't feeling that well after lunch, so I came home and watched The Work of Director Michel Gondry DVD that I got from Netflix. Michel Gondry has produced tons of cool music videos for artists like Bjork, Beck, Kylie Minogue, White Stripes, Rolling Stones, and many other people. A very cool DVD.

My last day in Texas. Finally the temperature started warming up a bit, but it's too late for me. It was sunny and in the 70s, so we took a little walk on the beach. There were a few other people walking around on the beach (next month there will be thousands here for spring break). We also saw some people riding horses and driving their cars (and tractor trailer trucks!) on the beach... apparently it's allowed if you use certain beach access roads. Later, we crossed the bridge to Port Isabel where were took a tour of the lighthouse there and had lunch at Pirate's Landing which had some great Po'boys. The shrimp was great everywhere. Then it was time for me to head to the airport. My flight went from Harlingen to Houston where I would transfer to a flight to LA. The flight to Houston was really neat. It followed the Texas gulf coast, so I got to see the rest of the island. Then, just before arriving in LA, I looked out my window and saw a bright red wildfire burning below which was kinda neat to see.

Since the Daytona 500 was today, we decided to go to a sports bar called Louie's Backyard and watch the big race on the big screen. To my delight, Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the race easily. Later, we explored the island a little bit. South Padre Island is the southern part of Padre Island, the longest barrier island in the world. It's a long, thin island in the Gulf Of Mexico that runs along the coast of Texas. It has miles of tropical beaches, but it was still a little too chilly to go swimming.

Today, we decided to go to Mexico. The weather was a better... sunny, but still a little cool(60s). First we ate breakfast at a great little place called Ted's Restaurant on the island. Then we headed for Brownsville, the southernmost city in Texas. We parked our car and walked across the international bridge to Matamoros, Mexico. There wasn't much directly across the border. You need to take a cab to the market which is a few miles away. So, we decided to go back across the border and head for the next border town which was Progesso, Texas. We crossed the international bridge ove the Rio Grande River and found ourselves in Nuevo Progresso, Mexico. Neuvo Progresso was great. There were tons of great shops and restaurant right across the border. We did some shopping (i bought some mexican candy and real vanilla), eating (mmm... tacos), and drinking (margaritas and coronas). Nuevo Progresso was a great town... my favorite experience so far in Mexico. I wish we could have stayed there longer, but we had to head back to the island.

Oooh... Friday the 13th, and I got to spend the night on an airplane. I left LAX at 1:30am and arrived in Harlingen, Texas at 10:30am with no sleep at all. To make things worse, it was cold and rainy when I arrived and there was a bizarre cold front hanging over Texas bringing snow to places that hadn't had snow in over 15 years. What a perfect weekend to go to the beach! I met my parents at the airport and we spent the day exploring Harlingen which was kinda boring. The best things we found were the Soccer Store and a good mexican seafood restaurant called the Blue Shell. After dinner, we made our way to our hotel on South Padre Island.

I started this weekend very early on Saturday morning. I went to the Cock 'n' Bull Pub at 7am with my friends Dave and Carol to watch some live English soccer. We watched a couple of good matches. Later on in the day, I went to see a good movie called The Dreamers. On Sunday, I attempted to do some CD shopping but I didn't find much at Tower or Rhino. I may have to make a trip to Amoeba this week. They are overpriced, but they do have the best selection. Also today, I did a little rollerblading at the beach, but it was a bit windy. And tonight, I watched the Grammys. The Grammys were kinda boring this year. There really weren't many great albums that came out this year, just Outkast. There were so few, I guess they had to nominate some older albums. I noticed that many (actually most) of the albums nominated this year came out in 2002... two years ago!

It was a very busy week at work. Everything seemed to break this week, and I had to help fix it. At least the week goes by quickly when you're busy. Everyone was talking about Janet Jackson this week. I really don't see what the problem is. Why are people so offended by one second of partial nudity. I saw the half-time show and I didn't think anything of it until I got up Monday morning and saw it all over the news. People either get offened way too easily or they just like to find things to complain about. I work for Paramount Pictures, which is a part of Viacom, the same company that owns CBS and MTV, the producers of the show. On Tuesday we all received this internal memo from Mel Karmazin, the president of Viacom.

Wednesday was a good day. I went to a free screening of a really good movie called In America, and they my friend Isabel took me out to dinner at a fancy French/Italian Restaurant in Hollywood called Le Petite Four. Mmmm.

A new month... time to pay the rent. This weekend I went to a screening of The Perfect Score which had some funny parts, but had a really predictable plot and some really scenes. Maybe I'd like it better if I had a lower SAT score. On Saturday, Niki and I had some overpriced mexican food on the Santa Monica Pier, and then walked to Venice Beach. I did watch the Super Bowl today. It was pretty boring until the last quarter. Even the commercials were boring. It's too bad CBS refused to show the more interesting ones. I also watched some soccer games with weekend. They were all much more entertaining than the Super Bowl, especially since my two favorite teams, Manchester United and Real Madrid, both won this week.
