Finally a sunny and warm weekend day! I did go to the beach, but I think the highlight of my day was dinner. I went to a Japanese BBQ restaurant in Beverly Hills called Gyu-Kaku. It was a lot of fun. You order a bunch of different meats and vegetables, they serve them to you raw, and you cook them yourself at the charcoal grill at your table. It was really yummy. Especially the Garlic Kalbi (beef short ribs). Mmmmm.

After dinner, I went to see Coldplay at the Hollywood Bowl. I'm not the biggest Coldplay fan or anything, but they were really great live, especially outdoors at the bowl. It was only about an 80 minute show. Here's the setlist. The highlights for me were: opening with Politik (of course), and the encore which included a laser show during Clocks. You don't see lasers at rock concerts much anymore. I think the last time I saw some was at a Motley Crue concert in 1990. Lasers are cool.

It wasn't a very nice weekend here in Santa Monica. It was cloudy and cool all weekend. The sun finally came out this afternoon, but it was still cold out. I decided to dig my bike out of the basement and go for a ride. I hadn't ridden it in 3 or 4 years. It requires way too much energy. I think I'll stick to rollerblading. I also went to the beach today, but it was really crowded.

As usual, I went to see a couple movies this weekend. On Friday, I saw a great movie called Sweet Sixteen about a Scottish teenager who sells drugs to earn money to buy a house for his mother who will be released from prison soon. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was subtitled. A little strange, since the movie was in English. I guess it was because their Scottish accents were pretty heavy, but I found it very distracting. Also, I went back to the Nuart and saw Cremaster 1 & 2. I didn't really care for Cremaster 1, but 2 was really great. Check out the Cremaster Cycle website. It's really neato.

Sunday, I spent the day inside watching TV. It was a big day in racing. Sunday morning was the Indy 500 and Sunday night was the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600. The Indy 500 was a good race with Brazilians taking the top 3 spots. The Coca-Cola 600 ended up being stopped early because of rain. Later, I watched Surviving Everest on the National Geographic channel. Speaking of Everest, check out this 360 degree panorama from the top!

Also this weekend, I had to do my Photoshop homework. I'm really getting tired of doing homework. Most of the other classes I've taken didn't require any. Well, I only have 3 weeks left. I think I'll take the summer off.

Another busy week at work. We're supposed to get a half-day tomorrow, but I think I'm going to be too busy to leave. My friend Isabel just got back from Brazil and today she brought me a really cool soccer jersey she got there from her favorite team, Grêmio. She says they're the best team. It's a great shirt. I'm going to wear it everyday. Tonight I went to The Italian Job. Finally, Paramount puts out a good movie! I think it's the best one they've put out since I've been working there (almost 3 years).

I had a nice, relaxing weekend after a crazy week at work. Both days I slept until noon and went to the beach. I went to see Cremaster 3 today. It's a really neat film by Matthew Barney (best known for having a baby with Bjork). It's the final part of the 5-part epic called The Cremaster Cycle and it's got some great images. The order your supposed to them is 4-1-5-2-3. I don't think I'll see them all, but if you're interested, they're screening at the Nuart in West LA. (It's better than The Matrix).

Earlier this week, I went to see a screening of Spellbound. It's a great documentary about 8 children preparing of the 1999 National Spelling Bee. It was nominated for an Academy Award last year, but it lost to Bowling For Columbine. I loved that movie but after seeing this, Spellbound should have won. Go see it. (It's also better than The Matrix).

It's 2am. I just got home from seeing The Matrix Reloaded and all I really have to say is that's it's totally dumb. Don't waste your time and money. Go see X2: X-Men United instead. Earlier tonight, I saw Anger Management. Not much better than the Matrix, but at least it was funny and Jack is always good. I can't believe I missed the Dawson's Creek finale for this.

I've been sick for the past few days, but I think I'm getting better. I've pretty much stayed in except for going to a few movies. I went to the Anime Festival at the Egyptian Theatre and saw a Hayao Miyazaki Double-Feature on Friday and a couple of Hentai films on Saturday. Miyazaki's Castle In The Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service were both pretty amazing. Better than most of the non-animated films I've seen recently. The two Hentai films ("Koihime" and "F Force") were interesting... something I've never seen in a theater on the big screen before and probably never will again. In case you don't know, Hentai is basically erotic Japanese cartoons. Today, I watched the Laker game, went rollerblading with my pal Alex, went to see X2: X-Men United, and didn't do my homework.

I'm at home sick today. I think I need to stop staying out late on weeknights. I wasn't feeling that great yesterday, and then I went out last night and now I feel even worse. Last night, my friend Mary got me into the $45 Martin Gore show at the Mayan for free. Martin Gore is the keyboardist and main songwriter for Depeche Mode. It was pretty great show. He played a lot of Depeche Mode songs (see setlist). His fans are really fanatics though. They screamed throughout the whole show and some of them threw their panties on stage. During "Loverman", he brought his two kids on stage to sing with him. It was all worth it just to hear "Enjoy the Silence" which I don't think he plays very often.

I spent the weekend in San Francisco visiting my friends Allison and Nick. It was fun. I love San Fran. Maybe someday I'll move up there. I went to a bunch of cool places like the Ferry Building, Haight Street, Chinatown, and North Beach, and I ate lots of good food. My favorite place to eat is House Of Nanking... mmmm.

Instead of staying in and watching my new rubber tire coated Speed Racer DVD, I decided to go out and see the "Geek Show" at the Henry Fonda Theater. Remind me never to go to a show in the middle of the week again. Why do these clubs always have to have 3 or 4 bands play a show? One or two is really enough. The first band was Skeleton Key: why did they bother? Next was The Melvins: at first I had my earplugs in and all I could hear was bass, they sounded pretty bad. Then I took out the plugs and heard the guitar. They kinda rocked, but were just too loud. Finally at 11pm, the band I came to see: Tomahawk. Tomahawk is: Faith No More singer Mike Patton, Jesus Lizard guitarist Duane "he's got more grammys than Norah Jones" Denison, Melvins bassist Kevin "he's got more herpes than Courtney Love" Rutmanis, and Helmet drummer John "he's got more needle marks than Anthony Keidis" Stainer. They were pretty good. At their best, they sounded like the Jesus Lizard. Whatever happened to those guys anyway? There's a band worth seeing live on a Thursday night.
