Jamie Morris : null : Kristin & Elvis
Kristin & Elvis

It's time for Weekend Update! Sorry I'm a little late, but I've had a guest for the past few days. My friend Kristin from Boston was visiting me. She had a very exciting weekend because she got to meet Elvis Costello, her favorite musician, three times and got her picture taken with him! While she was with Elvis, I was out seeing movies. On Friday, I saw Paramount's new movie The Core. It wasn't that great, but it was entertaining. There was one cool scene of the Space Shuttle landing in Los Angeles. On Saturday, I went to see Nowhere In Africa. It's a German movie that won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. And it was A-maze-ing. Go see it. Also on Saturday, I went CD shopping. I got a bunch of new CDs. And so far, I love them all. I got: Soundtrack Of Our Lives, 50 Cent, Ms. Dynamite, Idlewild, The Datsuns, Cursive, and Transplants.

On Sunday, I was afraid to go out at first because my apartment was being circled by police helicopters for about an hour. Apparently, they were chasing a child molester, but he got away. After the excitement was over, Kristin and I decided to go to Disneyland! We spent most of the day going on rides and having fun. After Disneyland, we drove back to Santa Monica and had dinner at Benihana. Mmmm. While we were waiting for our table, we were checking out the pictures of celebrities hanging on the wall. We noticed some pics of George W. Bush. We asked the sushi chef about them, and he said Bush used to eat at Benihana when he was Governor of Texas, but he's not allowed to go there now that he's President. The chef's use large knives at the tables to cook the food right there for you, and it's too risky to have have someone with a big knife that close to the President. Interesting.

PS: It's been 80 degrees for the past 4 days! Haha!

This has been an interesting week. Lots of things have been going on. I've been really busy at work. It was Niki's Birthday on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I went to see Jello Biafra speak at the Henry Fonda Theater. He had lots to say on the war and King George II, as well as his former bandmates.

Then there's the bad news. My two best friends at work are leaving me. Erin is moving to a different building to work on StarTrek.com and Isabel got herself a real job in Beverly Hills. Who am I gonna hang out with now?

And then there's the war. Not much to say today. I don't have the energy, but here's some links to check out:
- a blogger in baghdad
- al-jazeera english website
- r.e.m. protest song download
- buy a dixie chicks album

The Oscar's weren't too bad this year. Steve Martin's opening comments were really, really funny. Chicago was a good movie, but it didn't need that many awards. I'm not suprised it won Best Picture, but I would have picked Lord Of The Rings. I'm a little surprised that they gave an Oscar to someone who drugged and anally raped a 13 year-old girl. It was great that Michael Moore spoke out against Bush and his war. Check out MichaelMoore.com if you have never been, and go see Bowling For Columbine. Well, I did my part. I built a flash poll for the Entertainment Tonight homepage. See you tomorrow.

Happy spring everyone! I woke up this morning and decided to do my taxes. I owe a little money so I'm gonna wait until April to send in the check. And besides, the money's probably just gonna go towards bombs and missiles that can be used to terrorize, I mean "shock and awe", the people of Iraq.

In happier news today, after almost a decade, Roller Derby returned to historic Grand Olympic Auditorium in downtown LA. The Los Angeles T-Birds took on the San Francisco Bay Bombers and I was there! It was a lot of fun, a great game, and it was all for a good cause. L.A. won by one point in the last second and there was lots of fighting! It's kinda like a mix between speed-skating and WWF wrestling. I remember watching these guys (and girls) play when I was a kid. Some of the players have been doing this since the '60s. You should go check it out next time. Hopefully there will be a next time.

Jamie Morris : null : Peace Flag
Peace Flag

I'm pretty depressed about this whole war thing. I guess that after doing lots of research, I can't comprehend why anyone would support this. I think the people who do support it are either just ignorant or greedy. I wish there was something I could do to let people know why this is bad, but protesting certainly isn't going to help, neither is writing in my little blog, and neither is arguing with closed minded people who don't even want to understand. They just think it's some competition like the olympics or a basketball game, and they don't really care that people they don't know are dying. Yes, I think Saddam is evil, but I'm starting to think Bush is worse. Maybe I'll put together some facts about why I feel the way I do, but I might not because I don't think it'll help. All I can recommend to people is to read and get the whole story and don't be manipulated by the media. Get both sides of the story and make your own decision.

I just went to see a screening of View From The Top. It's not that great. Don't waste your time. It had a few funny parts with Mike Myers, but other than that it was just ok. Well, I guess I'll go watch the war. Isn't TV great?

So today was St. Patrick's Day, but I don't think I'm gonna go out and celebrate. I'd love to have a Guinness, but the fact that our stupid president is going to start a war is pretty depressing. Not that I like Saddam, but I would rather see Bush resign. The only thing he's accompishing is making the rest of the world hate us even more, and increasing the risk of a terrorist attack. Oh well. What can I do? Well, I guess I send a pretzel to Bush!

Here's a little Alphabet Game to cheer you up. If you can figure out D or O, let me know!

It rained all day today. I went out twice though. Once, to get a Fatburger, and once to go see a kung fu double-feature at UCLA. I saw The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin and Return To The 36th Chamber. This was the last weekend of the Chinese Martial Arts Film Festival. I really wish they would screen these movies more often because they are so good. Every one I went to see was sold out, so there's definitely a demand. Celestial Pictures is supposed to be releasing the Shaw Brothers films on DVD soon. I want to see them now.

Isabel @ Crazy Jacks

Tonight I went to Crazy Jacks Country Bar with my friend Isabel. We took some line dancing lessons, played some pool, and met some really interesting characters. My favorite was Ethan the former Navy man turned tattoo artist. Man, I wish I had brought my camera.

I went to the sold out Streets concert last night at the El Rey. It was a fun show, but they sound soooo much better on their album than in concert. If you haven't heard it, you should go buy Original Pirate Material now!

In other white-boy rap news, The Beastie Boys have released a new anti-war song called "In A World Gone Mad...". Download it now for FREE!

I was a little disappointed with my employer, Paramount Pictures, today. First, I got a memo this morning saying they're going to change how they give us vacation time. The first paragraph of the memo talked about how they know that employees having time off makes them more productive and happier, and how they want us to use up all our vacation days every year, and they want to make it easier for us to plan having time off. This all sounded good until the last paragraph of the memo which said that instead of giving us all our time at the beginning of the year, starting next year, we going to have to accrue days before we can take them off. Accrue days at a rate of 6 hours per month! So... next year I won't be able to take one day off until March! And if I wanted to take a whole week off, I'd have to wait until at least August! So basically that first paragraph was a COMPLETE LIE, but I went on with my day. After work, I went to a screening of Paramount's new movie "The Hunted" which was just horrible. Maybe they should try putting out better movies instead of making cuts out of our benefits to save money.

Jamie Morris : null : Houston Space Center
Houston Space Center

I'm back from Texas. Did you miss me? Probably not. Well, It was a real quick trip, but I saw a lot in two days. I arrived in Austin around midnight Friday and went to my Uncle Rick's house and had some Texas BBQ. Mmm... BBQ. We got up early Saturday morning and headed for Houston. On the way, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Mmm... Cracker Barrel. Then we went to NASA to see the Johnson Space Center. That was quite a cool place. For lunch/dinner we went to this great restaurant called Baba Yega. Mmm... Baba Yega. Then we headed to the Compaq Center to see the Houston Rockets play the New Jersey Nets. Yao Ming and company beat the Nets by a lot and we had great seats at center court. After the game, we headed to Galveston where we were spent the night. We got up this morning, had some very filling breakfast burritos (Mmm... breakfast burritos) and saw some of Galveston Island. After a quick tour we headed back to Austin because it's a four hour drive and I had a plane to catch. We hurried back, quickly visited the State Capitol of Texas, and then went to the airport. Only to find out my flight was going to be two hours late... why does this always happen on my return trip home??? I'm sleepy now. Good night.

Movies, movies, movies... I've seen three in the past four days! And they were all good! I finally saw Shanghai Knights with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. I think I liked Shanghai Noon better, but any movie with those two can't be bad. Last night, I saw the film Rivers and Tides about the Scottish sculptor Andy Goldsworthy who uses materials from nature to create art. He does some really neat stuff, and the movie was great too. And finally tonight I saw the British film Bend It Like Beckham about an Indian girl who wants to play soccer, but her family doesn't approve. It was a wonderful happy, happy, joy, joy kinda movie.

In website news, I've moved my site. It's now being hosted by Yahoo! GeoCities instead of being on my home computer. It's cheap, reliable, and there's lots of benefits like my new live streaming webcam!

Tomorrow, I must get ready for Texas. I'm going to visit my uncle who lives in Austin, and my parents are visiting too. It's gonna be a short trip... leaving Friday night and returning Sunday night. Thanks to Southwest Rapid Rewards for the free trip!

SATURDAY, MARCH 01, 2003

This week went by really slowly, but it's finally the weekend. Last night I went to see an amazing 1977 Hong Kong kung fu movie called Executioners From Shaolin. It was the opening movie of the UCLA Chinese martial arts film festival. There were some cool people there like Quentin Tarantino and John Woo. I'm gonna try to see a few more movies before it's over.

In other exciting news this week, I got my cell phone hooked up to the wireless web. I can now browse the web, play games, and send/receive text messages, AOL instant messages, and e-mails from my phone. Woohoo! And I think it's finally time to disconnect my home phone since I never use it.
